Cataract and plastic surgeries were performed; several hundred eyeglasses-mainly reading glasses- and eye-drops were distributed. Several hundred patients were screened for glaucoma and those with the disease were referred to the local ophthalmologist. He was trained in a new, faster and cheaper cataract surgery technique and in several plastic surgery procedures; in the prevention and treatment of endophthalmitis. He was also trained in the use of diagnostic equipment and in the use of a YAG-laser. Surgical and diagnostic instruments, an autoclave, medical supplies, eyedrops, medicines and money were donated to the local ophthalmologist and hospital.
