CHECK LIST – FOR PATIENTS PRIOR TO ENTERING OPERATING ROOM

  • Make sure all patients have their “card-necklace” with proper information
  • Keratometer and A scan measurements completed
  • IOL powers recorded (PC and AC)
  • All surgical patients seated in proper order
  • Have interpreter give OR instructions
  • RED, BLACK, YELLOW and BLUE taped drops started on first two patients every 5 minutes X 3 (Secondary implants see below)
  • First patient gets lid cleaned with Ocusoft, anesthetic injection, iodine drop instilled,
  • Patient can get up from injection table and go to bathroom-even if patient refuses, he/she MUST go
  • Second patient receives anesthetic injection
  • First patient on operating table-put gown and OR hat on before
  • RED, BLACK, YELLOW and BLUE taped drops given to 3rd patient – and this same flow continues right on down the line
  • Lunch – patients needing food will be fed
  • Keep a happy spirit – encourage everyone. Let each one know we all care for each of them very much.

 

SECONDARY IMPLANTS:

  • NO DILATING DROPS – USE BLUE taped drop and PILOCARPINE (green top) every 5 minutes X 2)
  • Do NOT give RED and/or BLUE top drops-these will dilate the pupil and make the surgery impossible-it will need to be cancelled till the next day.
