Strengthening Eye Care in Northern Ghana: Highlights from a Successful CPD Workshop.

Over the weekend, Tamale Eye Hospital in collaboration with Right To Sight & Health successfully organized a two-day Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshop for eye care professionals across Northern Ghana.

Held on Friday and Saturday, the workshop brought together a total of 6 presenters and 81 participants, including ophthalmic nurses, optometrists, opthalmologist and other key eye care practitioners dedicated to improving vision health in the region.

Focus on Common Eye Conditions

The academic sessions centered on some of the most prevalent eye conditions encountered within local communities. Key topics included:
• Glaucoma
• Cataract
• Uveitis
• Other common ocular diseases affecting patients in Northern Ghana

These presentations provided practical insights and updated knowledge to help professionals enhance diagnosis, management, and patient care outcomes.

Beyond Learning: Networking and Collaboration

Beyond the academic program, the workshop created a valuable platform for networking and collaboration. Participants had the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, build new professional relationships, and exchange ideas on improving service delivery.

The event also featured opportunities to explore and acquire essential ophthalmic instruments, helping practitioners stay equipped with the tools needed for quality care.

Looking Ahead

Following the success of this workshop, organizers are planning to make the CPD sessions a regular initiative, with programs expected to take place every three months. This ongoing effort aims to continuously strengthen the capacity of eye care professionals and improve access to quality eye care services across the region.
